A/C drop out. High pressure

Hi all,

Yesterday my AC lost its chill. I use the AUTO function all the time with no issues. Yesterday I went to the shops and waited in the car with the AC on with engine running to keep cool. It’s was about 25 degrees. I then drove round to pick up the other half, but 5 minutes after they opened and closed the door, it became very muggy. Then the AC was trying to blow harder to reduce the temp.

Plugged GAP in and no faults.

Today I went out to check the valve. I had good pressure with oil a good squirt of oil. I then turned over the engine to find the AC chilly again.

Any ideas what could have caused this.
 Craig.

Hi all,

Bringing this back up. So since this post, I have had the AC drop out twice again. But,
I have had the rear ac pipes replaced and all has been well.

I have noticed that my condenser dryer is leaking. I aim to replace it tomorrow.

But, I have been doing a lot of research regarding the AC system as the system cut out twice in the hot weather. I assumed from the refrigerant leak. But now the weather is pants again, it’s been working fine again.

My AC pressure readings have been really high (I assumed higher the better). They have been 290-300 psi. I have now realised that this isn’t good. It’s far too high. So has my AC been cutting out as an over pressure in the hot weather. Protecting the system??

Lol, shows how often we need the A/C in Scotland when this is a problem twice in two years! Laughing

I have something similar, except in mine it is the blower motor that just stops responding. Ignition off and on resolves it, but no fault is reporting on the GAP Tool.

Well, I have just had 660g extracted. From the 910 I had 3 months ago. So I still had plenty of gas! Lets get stuck into the condenser replacement.

Hi all,

So I have replaced the condenser and regassed.

I had concerns over really high AC pressures seen above. Research says that it could be faulty condenser.

But after a regass this morning, the initial pressure in the garage was nearly 290psi! As I drove it dropped to 125-150 psi. As I pulled up to my destination, I noticed it creeping back up to 170psi.

I get good cold air, but why is my pressures so high when stationary? Or is this normal. Viscous fan seems to be working.

Thanks.
 Craig.

Viscous fan has resistance when engine off. Can move with my fingers, but won’t freely spin on its own momentum? Is that normal?

Hi,

have tried to find the details I used when I had a leak on my Aircon but sadly not found the details yet Embarassed

there is a table of pressures and temps you can see with the IID I was surprised how much difference there was in pressure depending what the outside temp was.

will have another search but if you have not seen something like that, there is a scale (somewhere Question )

Thumbs Up

mine turned out to be a leaking condenser
.

Another search and think it was Flatlanders post I was using if this helps any Thumbs Up

May be worth checking the condenser fins are clean, the condenser cools the refrigerant gas down turning it into a liquid. This cooling process is what takes the heat out of the car / system. If it is not cooling down correctly the system pressures will be higher.

May be worth a quick wash from a pressure washer.
