Replacing side steps : ebay recommendations
My side steps have finally rotted through. I've had a look on ebay and there are lots of sellers - I was just wondering if anybody could recommend a seller that they've used and not had a problem fitting the steps (I've seen a few reviews on ebay saying that the brackets didnt fit!)Discovery 4 HSE Luxury Santorini MY12

This thread has useful info and a link to the ebay ones I fitted last month. Great value and only changed after 6 years because the chrome trim came off. No probs with fit.
Top tip - go easy when removing the bolts that fix through the sill. They extend into the sill and one of mine had rust on the end threads inside the sill. When I undid it it sheared.
Lots of lube and screw in and out till you get bored and till it gets easier. Matron.

If you must replace with more sides steps (why not sliders or something that won’t cause the sills to rust through) then at the very least strip down the sills, fill the insides with some rust prevention liquid (Dinitrol etc) and rub down, prime and recoat the area under the plastic covers.. might save you a lot of heartache later on!I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... Thanks @kevofcov
I'd like to replace with sliders, quite like the shires ones, but can't stretch to the cost of them at the moment.Discovery 4 HSE Luxury Santorini MY12

Hi
Plus 1 what nige said ref sliders, I managed to get a second hand pair of 3” rock sliders , sanded them down , then treated the inside / outside 4 x coats of dinitrol , along with drilling several holes in the bottom to allow any water to drain out
The large brackets just bolt straight on without any need to cut the plastic sill covers , I did get all new 10.0 stainless steel bolts , nylocs and washers
Also very handy in car parks as will often hear a ding when someone next to u opens there door to wide and instead of hitting ur paintwork they hit the rock sliders ,
I'd like to replace with sliders, quite like the shires ones, but can't stretch to the cost of them at the moment.
Just a thought, unless you need rock sliders cus your going to get intimate with rocks, side steps do protect your door skins from other car doors in carparks. Mine are still without a blemish....
... but I haven't yet used their brackets, due to time constraints.
Steps themselves are fine and have several battle scars that have saved the paintwork..
