It’s possible for sure, I’d need to combine the trip with 3-4 other customers to avoid charging extra for the fuel etc as it’s a fair old drive from home near Manchester!

This exactly. RSE is a thing of a past, people have bigger and better personal entertainment devices so they use them instead of the tiny, low-res screens in the seatbacks.
There are, however, devices that can be hooked up to the HDMI input on the in-car entertainment (provided one exists) able to present themselves to phones/tablets as a Mirrorlink, which enables a designated device to wirelessly cast the screen to the car entertainment system. This would be visible on the RSE screens.

Very interesting, I would definitely be interested in taking advantage of CarPlay.
What impact would this install have on warranty? Would it give the Dealer / Warranty company the excuse to refuse an infotainment warranty claim if something later arose?

As far as a vehicle warranty and infotainment system goes, I see no reason why it would be impacted. The whole Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto install is completely reversible and would leave no trace that it had ever been installed once it’s removed.
If it were my vehicle and I had a fault on the infotainment system I’d remove the Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto install before going to the warranty company….which of course gives the added benefit of proving that the Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto is not the root cause before taking it to the warranty approved repairer.

If you had a D3.
Which you upgraded to the earlier D4 sat nav unit…
Could this upgrade be done to that D4 sat nav unit or does that add too many issues?

Unfortunately it’s not possible, the “SatNav” button in the panel below is not present when the early D4 screen is fitted to a D3….and it’s this button that is used to bring up the Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto functionality on the screen

While dared to I install one myself (kinda far from @CDS to ask him for install), these IDCore units are extremely well designed and worth every penny. They do benefit from a professional install, a well-thought out strategy for component placement will be beneficial here, so worth having them installed by someone who knows what he's doing!

Hi there. I'm up near Dunkeld, just outside Perth - could I be added to your Scotland tour? I have a 2015 D4
