Joining Captain Ahab on an EPB wail hunt

Huge European tour and 6,000 faultless miles later and its MoT time.

Sadly the EPB has chosen now to warm up its vocals chords.

I've reset everything as BBB (also enjoying the YT Morocco videos) and did the 10 stop/starts, but still wailing like a banshee.

Can I assume the cables are all connected and functioning as operating the EPB on the road test delivers terrific stops with no wailing?

If so why the noise in normal operation?

Am I now looking at the joyful opportunity of removing the EPB?

Any help/banter much appreciated.

Thanks

Pete

PS. I accidentally bought a 110 TD5 CSW

Then the problem is most likely in the drums themselves.

Wheels off, calipers off, disk/drums off, clean all the dust out.

Thanks.

I prefer that as a plan on a sunny day.

I’ll let you know.

Near side looks like this?

Certainly a bit dusty.

Will a clean up be the cure?

Place your bets.

Thanks

Assorted snaps.

The one that matters is the last one - rear shot of the brake shoes.

The silver actuator was stuck fast.

Does that mean the EPB tries to pull the cable, can’t move the pads, gets bored and starts wailing as the plastic cogs slip?

Make sure to adjust both adjusters and not just the one with the star wheel on it.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks for the heads up on that one.

Once I’ve ‘locked up’ the wheel with the star adjuster, how far back do I turn it?

Is it issue to try the EPB having adjusted only one side?

Thanks.

Far side today.

Same issue - lever mech jammed tight.

Last photos from a rather self-indulgent set of posts.

Hopefully of some use to someone.

I’m now much clearer on how the EPB works and the likely cause of the cogs slipping.

All back together and working without a sound.

Thanks all for the advice, made a world of difference.
