Brake discs

I am sure this has been done to death but a search doesn't reveal anything for me.

The first set of replacement discs after the factory fit ones were Britpart rear discs and they are heavily scored after only 3 years, the factory fit ones last 5 years. Mostly town driving but we do take the Disco on our travels.

Looking at replacing the discs and wonder if there is much difference between Britpart (roughly £40 a pop) or Brembo (insert any other big brand name for about £70)?

Also when braking I occasionally have shudder on the steering wheel. Is this most likely to be the front brakes? Having read a few threads here it might not be the brakes but could be the bearings or other exotic components. How would I tell with my limited diy kit?

(I do enjoy this forum but what with the crankshaft issue and the theft issues it does add a few more grey hairs!!)

LR branded discs via Duckworths with the forum discount are very competitively priced.

LR branded brake pads are stupidly expensive, or at least where last time I checked.

I have used Brembo pads and discs on my FFRR and have no complaints whatsoever. I shop around in the online retailers as prices vary all the time.

I get my friend’s independent garage to fit them.

Thanks LT, I'll take a look at the LR discs from Duckworths.

As for the juddering when you brake, I would suggest you sort those brakes and discs out first, see if that cures the problem before looking elsewhere.

Badly scored discs point to worn out pads, discs should not score under normal use.
Site sponsor advanced factors offer very good value and site discount and next day delivery, I have run Borg and Beck discs and pads front and rear from them for the last four years without any problems. Thumbs Up
