Hey there, I'm currently running my discovery (05 2.7 HSE), a camper van and shortly will be getting a company car! Lack of driveway space means that somethings got to give and I think it may be time to part ways with my discovery as its simply not getting the use it once did.
My question is about how I go about valuing it, I've owned it now for ten years and in that time its wanted for nothing! I have a stack of receipts totaling in excess of £14k for work I've had done on it during the time I've owned it, in addition to this its decked out with prospeed kit -full length roof rack, ladder, rock/tree sliders, compressor guard plus a rai. I know I'll never recoup the money spent on it that's the way it is with cars, especially ones with the green ovel attached to the front but putting a number on it is proving to be difficult.
What's peoples thoughts? Do I sell as is inc all the kit I have fitted (my preferred option) if so where do I begin trying to put a price on it. Or do I strip it back to bare bones and sell everything separately? I've looked on the usual selling sites and prices are all over the place for discovery's especially ones of the older variety but there's nothing kitted out like mine to compare to. I've got a few months to play with before the third car comes into play so I have time on my side but not sure how to proceed.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Mileage, service history and body work etc all play into this so pictures and more info would help.
As an example, I bought a 2008 D3 SE for my daughter with 160k on the clock for £5600 that had been extremely well looked after.
Have a look on eBay, Autotrader and Facebook Market place to gauge the price of similar vehicles of a similar age and history.
D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)
New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!) Sold
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

Another possible option;
Price it both ways….
Option one: Bare bones
Or
Option two: Fully kited out
Be guided by the interest,
Option one however gives you the opportunity as you say to sell the extras separately

Hey Moo thanks for the quick reply
You are quite correct a few more details would probably help! Apologies it’s was late when I posted 🙈
For reference it’s a 2005 D3 HSE 2.7td so in the cheaper tax band. It’s done just over 160k and has a full service history half main dealer half LR specialist the last one being done last week. As mentioned before it’s had a fair amount spent on it during my ownership all the normal stuff like compressor, valves, propshaft, tank under tray, battery, arms etc have been replaced at some point and the cambelt still has a few years till it’s due replacement again. Bodywork wise it’s in pretty good condition it could probably do with a good machine polish but it does have a few scratches that wouldn’t polish out (mostly car park damage 😡) so would probably need some attention if the new owner was fussed by them.
CRP, I guess that’s another option but I think I’ll go down the sell as one route at the mo and hope someone sees the value in the complete vehicle.
Thanks for the advice so far.

IMHO, your D3 is as worth as much as any other equally kitted and mileage D3
But yours will sell quicker with those records / proof
The “ad on” extra’s, don’t bring much extra value when mounted.. (only a few extra quid)
So selling them separately, later on, will bring the most profit…
Trouble is, it IS an old motor and every seller think theirs is the best…
Like Moo, wrote… look at equally mileage, age D3’s the popular selling sites to compare.. Best regards
Harold
