Scotland 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Corris GreyDiscovery 4

Got the battery installed - locked in at the base and securely strapped down.
Also got the inverter installed - made a back-board, secured it in (off the wing) with a few brackets.

Angled some small brackets, added fasteners and drilled/bolted into the side panel in readiness for the facia panel (I still need to make & install).

A minor suggestion, I would use a piece of angle to run under the particle board as there is very little strength screwing into the edge.

Option: Put a 175amp Anderson plug nearby so you can jumpstart yourself or others.



I have another 175amp plug near my axillary batteries so can put an Anderson plugged lead between the two (using old welding cable). Also have adaptor ends for other cars.

Massive respect and credit to u mate , doing an awesome job and looking forward to see that rear panel done

Can Imagine you’ve spent endless hours trying to work everything out to ensure said parts fit into the correct areas , indeed think that can sometimes take longer than the actual project itself

Like many others following with great interest and really is appreciated u sharing them with us

Nothing done today, been out walking, but as D4 has been parked up for a couple of weeks it was ideal I got it out running.
My drive was 1.5hrs there & same back through minor twisty, potholed roads……… but it did give me the opportunity to check out how the installation performs on road.

Happy to say, everything secure, no movement or rattles, so “all good to go” and no need for any other amendments / additions….. so far.

Not had much time over the last few days.

So offered up the side panel just to make sure that nothing fouled it ….and thankfully all is good. Thumbs Up
Then made a cardboard template for the facia.
From that, then cut out the actual plywood facia.

Then offered up the cardboard template to decide where the sockets etc should go.
Reckon I’m happy with the positioning, but will leave it overnight in case I have other thoughts.

Good to get off project to come up with better solutions. My fridge bracket I got off it for weeks a few times & came up with far better & more refined solution.



I replaced the cigarette 12v socket with 50 amp Anderson plug in the boot.

Two issues, first, the plug came out on corrugated roads (which also broke the roof rack, another problem solved). Second, the electrical contacts at the back of the plug had very poor contact.







I put an Anderson plug on the fridge (also rewired the fridge from 16awg to 12awg to recover 0.17 volts), also a 7 amp panel circuit breaker (the red thing).

Decided to keep the plan for installing the bits, made sense the largest unit is in the biggest area tapering down to the smallest in the narrowest area.

So over the weekend I cut out the openings on the facia panel.
Glued down some black carpeting then installed the sockets etc.
For the solar panel, this is 30mm deep, a surface mount and has 4 heavy gauge wires entering at the base.
Didn't want the protrusion or those visible wires, so decided to 'french' it in.
The face of the unit curves from the top to the bottom, so got the top flush, with then just a minor protrusion to the bottom...... means all the big wires are then out of the way behind the facia board.

Fitted the facia panel to the large trim panel just to make sure it all lines up ok with the brackets ..... and it does.

Made up the wiring looms for the USB's and also for the power sockets and fitted them.
Also, work is in progress on making up the main loom for the YT battery/inverter/relay etc.

Hope u don’t mind me asking and this doesn’t come across as being rude in any way but will u have to cut any ventilation vents in there for the controls / battery or doesn’t it require them plse , many thks

@ Garry - not really using a lot of power in my set up.
USBs are wired and fused separately to the power sockets, but both using 16awg cable.
Main unit is a 60wh fridge, then it’s just recharging the e-bike, lights, power packs, shavers etc… so no big power draw.
The inverter (has its own cooling fans) but will only be switched on whilst in occasional use eg 600w kettle & 500w heater…… in inclement weather only.
Obviously with any installation, I’ll be monitoring closely for any negative effects.
I’ve also got the side panel hatch I can remove to check …. and if required instal some vents.

Was actually thinking in installing a Bosch washing machine and matching tumble dryer. Rolling Eyes
