I realise that this is little as sprinkling salt in the wounds, but one quite sure way
to avoid snapped bolts is to us a torque wrench. Most of us tight too tight and he
who say he can evenly tighten bolts, don't know what he say.
From your writing it sound that someone been there before and it's possible that
the bolt was already stretched and it jus now snapped, so here torq wrench would
had not helped.

I was using a torque wrench and was set to 50% for the first pass
So even more annoying that it happened!
I did consider helicoil but decided with the age it is probably prudent to change the pump anyway!!
Hopefully will be a job I won’t have to do again!!
It’s at this point where I always wonder if it’s just worth struggling to take the engine out and give it a thorough going over..
But there in lies total madness and I came to my senses for a change!
Obviously would be a different story if I had the infrastructure to get the body off but alas I do not!!! If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Well it’s progressing..
New oil pump fitted, new timing belt, anguish over how to tighten the crank bolt then when I did it wondered what the worry was about!!
1m long breaker bar did the trick.(after the 2 torque steps).
Alternator bracket refitted and the. An hour to get the small bit of heat shield back on.
Alternator on twice as someone. Forgot how the cable was routed …. Oops!
Sump on and realised another pointer to someone being there before me!
One of the 8 of 8mm head long bolts was different!
Slightly shorter with longer thread portion, and a slightly different head!
It’s long enough to fit and torque up ok but it’s not right!!
Very strange??
Just hope the bottom fan shroud and pipes are easier to put back on than it was to remove!!!
After all this I just hope the sump gasket was the problem!!
Will be slightly miffed if it’s still leaking!!!
Still lots to do but going the right way finally. If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Realise you may be getting bored of me but updating none the less
Everything back on and tightened up (bar the driveshafts)
Taking headlights off helped with locating the fan shroud bolts!!
Wish I’d done that when I was stripping it!!
Realised you can release the gearbox parking lock whilst under the thing so could turn the prop to install the bolts! Saved a lot of faff.
If you do that make sure the wheels are chocked properly first..
Filled with oil and no level display!!
(Used the maintenance method (bonnet open, door open, and got ‘live’ readings))
Realised that it needed to have more as the whole system was empty!
Put a little more in and got to level.
Panicked a bit but No leaks apparent . Phew!
Filled coolant with just water to leak check and all ok.. Phew!
Started and after a few cranks (sat for 5 weeks so appears to have lost fuel prime!) chugged into life.
Rattling as a rattley thing then ‘Landy Quiet!’ Yaaay.
No leaks and left running for a bit when ping!!
Charging system fault!
Hindsight being the greatest thing.. when I re-routed the main positive lead I accidentally knocked the sensor wire out!! What an idiot!
Belt off, loosen alternator to allow hand down the side and figure out how to plug it in blind!!
I recommend taking the headlight off as you get much better access that way!
Still rips your hand to shreds but blood always washes off!!!
Plugged in and everything back on and charging ok.
Left for a few days over Easter- got back and no leaks still so promising.
Drive shafts back in and it’s now moving .. Finally!!
Just need to refill coolant with proper stuff and put the under trays back on
Then try to book the MOT again!

Also the LR time video of the loss of oil level sensor is a must watch if you want to do this!
Wish I’d found that before starting and not half way through!!
But certainly helped with the rebuild.
Next job is towbar removal so I can get it powder coated as it looks horrible at the mo!
Hopefully that is going to be less stressful!

Well MOT now passed and still not leaking!
However getting Restricted Performance and red triangle now!
No fault codes logged though which is strange?
Got a turbo blow which I didn’t have before so assuming I haven’t sealed a pipe properly hopefully.
Won’t be impressed if I have to do the manifolds too now! If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Well to sum up then.
Fan, alternator and bracket back off.
Air feed to secondary turbo not sitting right so removed it, tightened up all visible jubilee clips and reset the inlet pipe.
Finally refitted everything and cleaned all inlet o rings. Tightened every visible jubilee clip.
Gave it a tentative test drive and no restricted performance error.
Yay
Gave it a slightly less than tentative but not bordering on a full hoon, and no error so thankfully doesn’t look like inlet manifolds are failing yet!!
However got another charging fault one so need to wobble the alternator sensor plug again!!
So on to the next lot of on coming faults!!! If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Just an update ….
200 miles later and still no oil leaking.
However appears the crankshaft has now snapped so all that work will have to be done again, and more!
(See other posts!)
Discovery - the car that never stops giving…… If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
