Aluminium extrusion roof rack
Having another go around on starting to do a self build slimline rack similar to a front runner style. Have been wanting to for too long.
I’m looking around and a lot of the ones that have been built seem to use 2040 and 2020 aluminium extrusion, anyone done this in the past?
Not planning on 100’s of kg on the roof but don’t want them flexing. Gut feeling is that 2020 won’t take the weight on the crossbars but it seems to be used a lot.
I have used these people (and others) before when making up chainsaw mill frames and other one-off projects. The 3030 also comes in a quarter-round profile which looks to be stiffer than the 2020.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Get hold of an extrusions catalogue and you will find lots of options that are no doubt cheaper than 2020 or 4040, rhino and front runner racks are just extrusion with plastic/alloy corners.
If i hadn't been given a rhino rack for free i would be making one myself.
