| Oil temp / pressure sensors |
|
Hi all
I’m wondering if there are any sensors in relation to oil and coolant temperature and pressure please?
My car is 200k now so if there are any sensors for oil and coolant is like to replace them.
Sure I saw someone had a gauge on their dash for engine vitals
Can anyone recommend please

You could change the oil temp sensor in the sump if you like, the next time you do an oil change.

Cheers I know why you mean - is that the sensor for the main dash temp gauge?
I notice I’m burning oil as well. Certain there’s no leaks.
Would you say using 5w40 instead of 5w30 would be a good idea for this? Is it anything to worry about? Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

The main dash temp gauge is done by the grey sensor at the front of the engine. (in the middle).
I'm sure you have seen it while doing cambelts etc...
It's generally a reliable item though, so would leave it alone.
The oil temp sensor however, is Unreliable.
LR time on youtube recommend 5w40, so give it a try and see if its any better.

Ok cheers I’ll do the oil and leave the engine one
And yeah I’ve done a lot of research on oils but not seen anything to do with oil burn in there. I’ll give the thicker oil a go next summer I think when it’s hot

The Citroen manual, which has the same engine as these states:
In the winter season, on HDi engines, it is recommended to use 5W40 oil, (rather than a semi synth oil 10w) this to enhance starting from cold.
So I wouldn't be scared of using it.

What about summer time wouldn’t it be an advantage or maybe not as it may slow down circulation of thicker and in say a heat wave
Using that as example in relation to problems experienced previously that I’m trying to avoid

its Fine.
It is the first number they wanted to change for winter.
The main point is that it is recommended for this engine by the manufacture.

One of my reasons for wanting to try it is the age of the car and wear. Surely a slightly thicker viscosity will compensate for wear

In fact - I’ll monitor It for a few months now it’s topped up and see how much / often I lose… then change oil and compare. Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7
