Low temperature and coolant loss

Hello there,

Lately, I have noticed coolant disappearing on my D3. Nothing visible though. Another issue that might be related is that the temperature gauge never reaches the standard operating temperature while driving.

When on idle, it almost reaches the standard temperature but as soon as I start driving, the temperature drops.

Any idea or clues on what to check, please?

Thank you

Check the oil and fuel coolers on top of your engine, you can get a leak here and it collects in the V and evaporates over time so you dont see a leak. You will normally be able to smell the coolant and see the residue thats left.

Thanks @aja4x4. I think I could smell coolant on around from the top of the engine but couldn't see any marks or any visible leaks. It makes sense if it evaporates. Will check properly again to see any residue.

No Vapor in the exhaust. Was thinking to do the CO2 test in case it leaks through gasket but can't understand why the temperature would drop low.

Temperature gauge dropping to cold could be a separate issue, mine used to drop and it was the oil temp sensor that was at fault.
