Tailgate D4 emergency opening

I have once again been hit by the failure of a tailgate to open. Tried to open the tailgate on my 2012 D4 by pressing the switch under the handle as usual and nothing happened. Tried a couple of times still nothing. Pressed the open boot button on the key fob and the lock clicked and boot partially clicked open but then stuck a second press or trying the handle also failed to open. I suspect the actuator or cable have failed rather than the switch in the handle

My question is that in my D3 by pressing the lock and unlock button at the same time on the dash and having someone pull the tailgate you could get the tailgate to open. The D4 does not have these buttons so is there an equivalent emergency opening procedure for the tailgate

Any help appreciated as I have a dog guard fitted so at the moment am stuffed 😡

Thanks

Steve

Don’t know about key fob button procedure on the D4, but you could always fit a manual internal tailgate release.
I fitted one to my D4, but that was for camping purposes.

Not sure if there is, have you looked at powerful uk's video of how to fit the manual release, may give you a another angle on how to get into it and release the tailgate with the dog guard fitted.

Has the dog guard an emergency access that will let you in the back?

Baler twine for next time!

You can DIY it or then buy from Land Rover Passion. I have one on D3 and have been pleased with it.

As an update
I have managed to open the tailgate by my wife pressing the boot open button on the key fob and me pulling the tailgate open. Having taken the dog guard out now I have opened the tailgate several times using the method above
If I try to open using the handle no chance
To me this implies the actuator and cable are ok and it is the switch in the upper tailgate handle that is the problem
Am I right ?
Thanks

I had this and thought the same. Turned out it was the actuator. Its a cheap and easy fix and if it were me I'd do it and the switch. Belt and braces and all that. Thumbs Up

Rather than buying direct from LRP in Italy, you should get a better buy & quicker turnaround from Brendan.

I bought my kit from Overlanders and fitting was really easy and only took an hr. I also have a full height dog guard fitted and the way I got round the problem of opening the latch was to drill a small hole in the catch which enabled me to use a rod and a hook to open it from the back seats.
Some mistakes are to good to only make once.

I had exactly the same problem.
Turned out to be the switch in the handle was corroded and not operating correctly.
Took me longer to find the correct switch on ebay than to change it.
Up a creek...now where have I stashed the paddle
