In cab heat

Hi all

I have now decided I want to be able to use the cars blowers along with the fbh to heat the car while it’s turned off at night when camping.

I have just done the cheap eBay remote kit of the Romanian guy

I wonder is it possible to modify my setup to heat the blowers as well please?

Or is it strictly only possible using the Altox kit?

I don’t want it enough to buy a second kit but I would be happy to spend time modifying the car if it’s possible

Failing that maybe worth buying a cheap 12v car heater?

Thanks as always guys

Yes I do sleep in it now and then for work and also I want to go away now and then in winter and camp in the car

I do have a yellow top aux battery yes mate. I plan on wiring up the fbh to the aux battery tomorrow as it happens. As I’m still having issues with a phantom drain I think.

Do you know of any half decent mods to achieve in cab heat please?

Also would be good to have the blowers on when drying off on breaks when working in bad weather without having the engine running as if the car stands still for long it blows loads of white smoke for some reason.

If you use the search button, you may find more, as i responded more often on the same theme…..

Bottom line:

If you want to activate the blowers too you need an (extra) IPCU unit…

Can be bought from webasto brand, programmed for your D3 on ebaykleinanziegen.de in germany for around 50 quid…. Or from altox called Altox Easy IPCU for 150€

The next limit will be managing the max duration your FBH will run on your romanian remote…. And the capacity of your yellow top, as the D3 fan does use a lot of current!

On a Altox “remote”/w-bus adapter you can extend the duration extensively (far longer than standard) and since it has a inside temp sensor, you can save on current…..

If it could be made cheap, with all those features, you would find them all over the (ebay) place…. But they don’t, do they Wink

Ok cheers I’ll
Look at this webasto ipcu thing cheers

The Romanian guy said it’s 1 hour or it locks out

So I could rewire the old wiring and clear the code with my gap if it did. And at least be able to heat up the cab for 55 minute maximum intervals

Will search for said thread

Thanks again as always

Apparently a common normal problem of condensation and it’s bad to be left running stationary anyway?

ISTR from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, this was a sign of worn injectors.

I might be wrong, it has been known. It was a Tuesday and raining, and there was nothing good on the tele. Whistle

I can't tell you exactly how to do it, so you need to have some electrical knowledge.
But the 2 cheap ways I am thinking:-
and it's a lot of work for little gain.

1) Use some 5 pin relays to disconnect wires (to the fan for example) from their factory location while the FBH remote is on. You then need a pulsed driver to run the fan at a low to medium speed. (these aren't cheap).
Before turning the ignition off, you need to set the temp dial to hot, and direction where you want the air to come out. If you are in the car this isn't much of an issue though.
This is a proven method.

2) Not a proven method, is to force the climate panel to work with the ignition off and let run normally and do its stuff while the ignition is off.
If you bypass the relay under the bonnet that has a key symbol and see if the climate panel works with ign off, and works correctly. This would prove concept

In either case, you could consider powering the fan from the aux battery. Hopefully without frying something.

Must say I've never left the car idling for an appreciable length of time, so I could be wrong, however when I've known cars blow "white smoke" due to condensation, it's shortly after firing up from cold, doesn't last long, and wouldn't have been described as "loads".

I think Nige is right and you should investigate that before making any more changes. Have a search for what DSL suggested, probably a good starting point.

I think you can guess, modding the heater blowers etc and trying to re wire your heating to th aux battery to give you some warmth while camping is a bit of a faff Smile

I do a lot of camping in mine, all through the year, if a jumper and a blanket won’t do it, you might want to have a look at something like this, “relatively” low wattage, plug and play.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394275395721?mk...media=COPY

To me, the lower wattage the better, you only want ambient heat rather than sauna level overnight

@ cmb2020
If it is of any help… you can have a look in a proven webasto manual for upgrading.. in my gallery, where i uploaded that manual last year

Since it has schematics it is more obvious where possible solutions can be tried for feeding the blower with auxiliary battery power
