XY sensor

Hi all

Back again!

Recently posted about transmission fault and epb in relation to car battery bla bla bla

Since noticed going in 6th gear is when the faults come up

Literally only happens when going to 6th gear

Spoke to indie today he said go through gears while engine off and go through the gears and said it’s possibly the xy sensor

Wondering if it’s an easy fix or mechanic job?

Is there any specific area to scan when my gap iid arrives tomorrow? Maybe able to pin point the exact problem

Thanks as always

So, when your iiD arrives, I'd recommend you:
1. Clear all faults
2. DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY CONFIG CHANGES, NO MATTER HOW TRIVIAL YOU THINK THEY ARE.
3. Drive around for a few days and check what codes have appeared.

Thanks..

I have a fair bit of knowledge on firmware and program settings on computers. So understand not to make a silly mistake of changing any settings without thinking twice.

I already have cleared the codes using an autel ap200. The bong happens as soon as I put it in 6th gear again. Then the epb about 30 seconds later.

Hoping this gap iid will be able to pinpoint with more precise codes or info!

Will come back with findings cheers

So if it happens the instant you put it in 6th. (and when stationary with engine on) it could be the sensor. A complete guess. have you seen one of these on the car ? don't know where. I would expect a fault code to point to it though.

If it happens after driving along, a while after selecting 6th, sounds like people blame the clutch

Thanks all

I wouldn’t have a clue where to start looking for that part Pete but I’ll look around gear box underneath tomorrow and try locate it. If I do I’ll get pictures etc.

The problem happens instantaneous. Immediately when I put in 6th. Says “E” on dash which I think I saw disco Mike say on another thread the E indicates it’s an electrical problem. Also praying it’s not clutch!

Gap iid still not arrived so giving up til Monday now I think

And as for the xy calibration I did try it but it won’t work once I hit 6th gear the warning triggers

Thanks as always

The XY sensor is right on the top of the gearbox, above the selector rods. I don't think it would be possible to change it without taking the gearbox out of the car.
I did a clutch recently, and it's not a 5 minute undertaking!

Indie seemed to be confident he could get to it and clean it for potential (metal dust) obstructing the furthest gear

TBC…

I guess you need to look at live values (on GAP or maybe Autel) for the gearbox
It should tell you what gear you are in, (with ignition on).
If you run through the gears on the drive, and it goes 12345 Error (much like the dash does I guess) then that sensor needs calibration or replacement I would guess.

Thanks

I tried the recalibration procedure. When I put it in 6th the fault comes up and won’t allow the completion of calibration

Next step being? Oil change maybe? Or gap iid live values of the module?

I’m new to the gap iid so no clue how to navigate

My gut feeling is that you're not going to fix it remotely. I think you're going to have to change the sensor.
