Camshaft Pulley Replacement

Alright troops.

Hope you’re well.

Anyone ever replaced the Camshaft Pulley on the back of the engine which drives the Fuel Pump Belt?

I’d be interested to hear how you went about it. 😅

Thanks. 👍

I think he had the engine out.

There is a tool to lock it so it can be undone.

It looks a bit like this, but I’m not sure it’s the correct one

Its a Censored job without the correct holding tool, i resorted to removing the cam and fitting both pulleys with seals on then fitting it.

I assume you want to take the rear pulley off to change the cam seal?

If that's the case and you think you're able to get a socket or spanner on the bolt, then get yourself a tool like this and hold the front pulley. You'll need a mate to hold it while you have a crack at the back.

Just be prepared for disappointment as that bolt is Censored tight and you may have to drop the gearbox out to gain better access/leverage.

Stop messing about and get your D3 over to Colin at Gibsons auto (LR) services in Cumnock to sort out.

https://www.gibsonsautos.co.uk/

It’s a 3 hour round trip for me taking the D4 there, then another 3 hour trip to pick it up.

But wouldn’t trust my D4 to anyone else …. except Disco Mickey in Dundee or JAS in York - sadly though, these two are a bit too far for me to travel …. oh, I’d also trust Oval Autos, but that’s on the other side of the planet for me. Laughing

Good morning troops.

Any advice on taking the head off these beasts? I’ve had a read through other post and still have a few questions…. 😅

Unfortunately I’ve been unable to get enough purchase on the rear pulley to loosen it so the N/S Head will be coming off.

Would be interested to here from anyone that’s done it in the past….. do I need to buy the full gasket set for example or can I just replace the gasket…? If the gasket coming off is 3 finger do I need to go to 4? Also…cylinder head bolts…will these need replaced?

Injectors too… can these just go back in or do they need new seals or anything like that?

Glow plugs….guessing these can stay in place?

Thanks in advance. 😅

Use the same gasket as what was on there, you'll want new injector washers.
