Suspension investigation advice

Hi all,

I've searched the forum extensively, just thought I'd run my theory past anyone who might be bored enough to read...

Amber suspension light after about 20 miles on motorway, codes C1130 Air spring air supply and C1a36 (no suffix) Exhaust valve. Cycle ignition, resets for another similar distance.

AMK compressor replaced with one I know is good, serviced it too. The one I took off had wet dessicant.

No noticeable suspension drooping, if left for a couple of weeks unrun it drops uniformly all round. But only a bit and rights itself upon starting.

Same fault exists, same codes, I'm guessing either damaged wiring (behind front wheel arch plastic cover or at rear axle sounds common), valve block or wet/clogged compressor intake filter or exhaust? .

Would appreciate the advice of those more experienced than myself, which would you check first?

Cheers, Rich.

Does the longer you leave it correspond with greater drop? Have you done the washing up liquid in a hand sprayer leak check on the system? Is it possible there is a pin hole in your tank, I ask about the tank as you say it drops uniformaly? Does the compressor run for extended periods or is it quick to regulate pressures and switch off?

Compressor runs normal I think, when I say it drops uniformly, I meant to say that it dropped a bit when I left it for 2 months... It wasn't right down...

I should do the soapy water test, but it's hammering down outside, only thinking its electrical or valve blocks as it raises and drops fine on the toggle in the car... Wondering if its a different cable that controls it dropping that way as opposed to when it's self levelling when driving?

As it's pouring down just chuck soap on it Lol.

I don't think they are meant to drop at all, but I am sure someone with far more knowledge than I can verify.

It doesn't drop at any one corner more than others if my understanding of what you put is correct, based on that I would be looking at your tank or a leak on your pump for a "system" drop rather than one air bag / valve block, otherwise I think it would drop just a corner or front / back, again maybe more knowledge required here?

Does the tank have a non-return valve on the line from the pump anyone?

Either way I think it needs soap once the deluge has gone.[/quote]

It's a weird one, when it throws the codes after about 15 miles of driving, recycling the ignition removes the Amber warning light for another similar distance, the car doesn't drop at all as far as I can tell and drives fine with the light on...

I'd assume that the exhaust valve code would throw up when I manually raise and lower the suspension, but no.... So I can't believe its the valve itself... Plus I've just serviced the compressor anyway...

Have a root round this chaps site, he has descriptions including fault codes and how to fix them, might help.

Good luck with it anyway, my ideas basket is all empty now Sad

Don't forget to let us know what it was when you fix it.

I'd find a copy of the proper LR maintenance manual - you can find it on the web. In the air suspension section, it has a fault code section - tells you what the code means, and I think gives a suggested cause.

Land rover air suspension fault code list here:

https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...system.pdf

Based on your code I think you have an air leak. I think that the computer is checking the frequency that the compressor is started/run. After 20 min period it is evaluating the run time, it too high you get your fault.

I'd suggest this is what killed your last compressor. So, unless you want to fit another very soon you need to find the leak. Park the car on a flat surface. Pull fuse 26 (verify via a forum search) to inhibit self-leveling while it is parked. Measure the height of each wheel arch center off the ground. Wait 24/48 hours. Re measure. The end/wheel that has dropped is your issue.

Thanks Adrian, makes sense to me, it is about 20 mins before it faults... appreciate your advice 👍
