Tdv6 dropping mpg

2.7 tdv6 auto was always averaging around 27mpg with a shuddering torque converter, got around to changing the torque converter in July past and noticed an improvement and it was averaging 32mpg but lately it’s been getting thirsty again and is now averaging just 25 mpg, anyone now what might be causing this?
I did notice the fbh running after a 20-30 mile trip, also scanned it for codes and is showing fault P0196 engine oil temperature sensor range/performance, could this be causing a drop in mpg? Thanks.

Oil temp sensor cheap enough, and easy to change, do it with cold engine and no need to drain oil.
Doubt that is the reason for mpg drop, but if left will end up giving you an unstable idle as the temperature drops.

Some people do unplug their fbh in a bid to save fuel, not tried it myself, but fbh on full power is approx 1/2 litre per hour, and if doing local work I can see the fbh running an awful lot, but then the engine will not get to operating temp and not be as efficient!

As an aside to the above, I saw a noticeable improvement in mpg by changing the air filter much more frequently than recommended.

Tyre wear & pressures can have an adverse effect upon mpg just as much as having a roof rack fitted, don't discount things like ambient temperature, traffic and fuel quality - as mentioned, airflow can have a unexpectedly high impact as well.
