Timing Belt failure / broken timing gear
Hey guys,
bought a Jaguary with 306DT Gen2 engine failure.
While disassembly i was wondering about the damage. I thought it would be the classical crankshaft failure but no. It was a timing belt failure! The timing gear of the left head was broken, seems like there were high forces.
I am wondering about that failure because i see it the first time.
Shortblock is okay.
The left head is even basically okay, only some slightly bent valves / broken rocker arms on exhaust cam. Exhaust cam damaged due to broken rocker arms. Inlet cam is okay.
The right head (head with high pressure Diesel Pump) was okay and even on timing.
Anybody know what could cause a failure like that?
