Have I got a Rear Locking Diff...? |
|
Got my new car on Monday, (Java Black HSE / Alpaca) replaces my TombRaider 110. Used the terrain response tonight for first time, on the 4x4 screen it showed an unlocked padlock symbol on the rear axle.
The car is 6 months old, and was not told of a rear diff, does this light indicate a rear locking diff?
Car is amazing, real treat to drive. Also this is a cracking site really helped with my buying process. Thankyou

Hi TombRaider, welcome and a good choice of car and site. The lock will come in automatically when it needs to. The little lock will then show locked. Need to do a bit of serious off roading before it will show I think. Ask Slimer, he a diff lock.

If the padlock is there, and showing un-locked, does that mean you have the rear difflock? I.e. if you dont have, then there's no pad lock - un-locked to lock? D3 HSE V8...

Was just asking for clarification - so all cars have the icon but it will only lock if you have the diff lock fitted. No diff-lock cars have the little unlocked padlock there, but it never locks.
Just read it again, and only one G&T down and I think it makes sense.
Maybe I need Diff-locking up! D3 HSE V8...

See, see, see, I'm not going mad... just another little redundant LR gadget. I was told mine came off the line with it fitted (mine is a replacement D£ for a rejected one), but I have doubted this as I've yet to see the little pad-lock "lock" despite severe provocation in rock creepy crawly mode.

See it is full of little software extras, like Microsoft I suppose. Many bits, few work.

Put it in rock crawl on gravel and give it a little welly - if you have it then it will lock up. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I did - Kielder Forest (old hunting ground for one of my Subarus) - it not lock-up - no diff lock then.
Maybe not enought welly? V8? Hmm probably no rear diff lock.
That said, eyes were on the road. D3 HSE V8...
