Engine Advise

Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked before (tried the search) I have a couple of questions about my 15 reg SDV6. Noticing the engine seems loud between 2-3k RPM (compared to another D4 i have driven) and have steam/smoke coming out of the oil filler cap. Is this the start of the engine failing? Any other early warnings they may give?

Thanks [/b]

If you do a search on "D4 engine failure" you'll have hours of bedtime reading designed to give you nightmares Laughing

Or try a more specific search using some key words from your post...

How is the coolant tank looking?

Try capturing some of the smoke/steam ... what happens when it condenses?

No "emulsion" when you look in the oil filler cap?

Coolant tank is fine, same with the oil filler. Still need to capture some of the smoke/steam but didn't notice anything dripping off the cap when holding it there.

Want to add as well I have only owned the car for a couple of months so this noise could have been there for a long time.

Is the smoke/steam coming from the oil filler cap with it fitted - and is the seal on it OK?
If it's coming from it with it not fitted, that's pretty normal TBH.

No only when removed, the only reason I was concerned was because a similar age/millage one wasn't doing it plus there is the general loudness of my engine which the other does not have.

All engines 'breathe' - there may be a blockage or restriction in the oil separator which is causing a higher than normal crankcase pressure, if you have diagnostics, check the cylinder balance values, otherwise, a compression check plus cylinder leakage check would be the first steps to get a 'current state' measurement.
Despite being the 'same' vehicle, there is a variance in performance, can you try another vehicle to see if the difference is the same or more/less than the previous experience? It's not easy to diagnose an actual problem vs. a perceived problem with a sample of 1:1
