So topped it up today to 90psi off using the Iid to watch the pressure. Now running at 123 psi when running and the air is no better.
Watching the live values I can see the compressor working though variable amps demand and everything else is responding.
Only thing I can see is what was raised last night by NC1989, the evaporator temp is consistently higher than the outside temp, so will try and take a look at that tonight once the heats gone down a bit.

I think your issues are the refrigerant charge, it wants recovering and a decent vacuum pulling before recharging properly with known good refrigerant. Your evaporator temperature isn’t dropping because it is starved of refrigerant (not enough in the system).

Exactly. Pressure is not a reliable way of measuring the refrigerant charge, only recover, vac & recharge will tell you how much is in the system and how much you've 'lost' - an empty system indicates a leak, refilling a known leaking system is not only bad practice but also illegal.

Sorry to also drop in on this one but having similar issues.
Had pipework to rear repaired and new condenser fitted. System pressure tested by mobile a/c guy and recharged. IID tool shows ~70 psi which looks right for ~20C. Can't hear anything clicking when switching a/c on off but can see current go from 0A to 150A and sometimes up to 240A. Also see a slight change in pressure but only by 5 - 10 psi.
After driving around for an hour the a/c worked briefly, but only for a few mins then hasn't worked since (with a few hundred motorway miles recently). Pressure checked again today and still good.
Mobile a/c guy reckons it is the compressor, but is there any way to diagnose that and / or differentiate whether it is the compressor or the clutch pulley?

High-side pressure should be ~150psi with system running at 20deg. C. static pressure (i.e. engine off) should be ~70psi (assuming correct refrigerant charge). I highly doubt your current readings are correct, current draw is usually less than 1A, anything more than 30A would probably melt the wiring.
I have seen D3's incorrectly charged with too little or too much refrigerant as it's not immediately clear from the label which system the vehicle is fitted with. The only compressor issues I've seen are the rubber inserts on the drive pulley wearing and causing the aux drive belt and tensioner to 'chatter'. The thermostatic expansion valve can cause problems but not low pressure.
