Engine fixed!

My LR4 went pop, 2016 spun bearings, 41000 miles, JLR coughed up 80% if the costs paid around £2.5k.

Drives smoothly now but still scared to take it on long journeys. Good thing was it has a two year warranty however it took months to fix.

Premium diesel is recommended and treat the turbos with respect.

I’m not overly mechanically minded, but, after a major service 4 weeks ago including new prop shaft my 2015 D4 went pop and I gave it back to LR (it’s out of warranty) and I am told crank shaft has broken and new engine is the only solution. First estimate is £15k less £3k engine but back.

I know the Crank shaft failure is well documented, but what’s the cost of a new engine, and is it as simple as just that? That component has broke so whole thing needs replacing?

You should have pushed them harder, they have been a lot more generous. Mine 2016 done 67k they coughed up the lot.

I would also be interested to know what the real world cost is at the moment. I am going to email QP online to see if they can give me a rough idea. Has anyone on here used QP for an engine rebuild / replacement. In the video that was done of their process it says they use upgraded bearings in theirs.

We must be getting close to the time where most Disco 4s are going to be running out of goodwill due to age and mileage now. And that people have had work done outside of Landrover. Seems to me a good chunk of us will be footing the cost on our own going forward.

Warranty Direct want 3k a year for our 64plate 91k miles so wondering if just setting money aside for a rainy day might be just as good a plan.

Thanks

My 57 plate at 54K mile HSE snapped at low speed pulling out of a junction in town.
landrover doing 100% but taking ages. Full service history and extended warranty from new. Didn't know about this inherent clause in warranty so glad landrover covering all. Recovery took to local garage but had to transfer to main dealers before landrover got involved. Dealers have had replacement engine for 2 months but still waiting on new turbos. Anybody heard how long for dealers getting the turbos?

That's what dealer said they are doing. 3rd one from them and all kept with full service history and warranty from bought new. Must have caught them on a good day as dealer was unsure how much if anything they'd cough up. Getting info from dealer like blood from a stone as if nothing to tell you they don't update. I saw a staff member about two months ago and he said good news have date for fitting engine end of July just waiting on turbos. Contacted this week to see where they were and got message back saying still waiting on turbos.

I think DSL was making the point the age of your plate may be misleading !! I havent seen a lot of 57plate D4s either!

******* never spotted that typo even when DSL questioned it. No wonder DSL mentioned it it's a 65 plate. Some day must start wearing my reading glasses rather than using a bigger font. Sorry for all those i confused.

I was getting all hopeful that LR were underwriting 57-plate engines. Although mine’s past 180,000 now so you could probably argue I’ve had my money’s worth. She’s just done another fab family holiday in Devon, on and off-road Smile

Look on the bright side, yours is still going 5 years and 14k miles after mine bit the dust. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing though! Whistle Whistle

Fingers crossed it stays that way. Thumbs Up
