Building a house in Perth |
|
Waay off-topic but really could use some help!
I bought some land in Perth and want to build on it but have been getting some ridiculous quotes from the builders (Beaumonde homes) I contacted so far. Furthermore, the 'off the shelf' designs they've shown me don't really appeal.
Does anyone here know some decent companies? I'm particularly interested in something like the Huf-Haus homes (http://www.huf-haus.com) they do in Europe. I will be really happy if there is an Aus company that does something similar.
Cheers,
Jonty

Had me excited there for a moment, wrong Perth! A mere 12000 miles away but having the same problems. Where about in Perth WA are you building? Stayed in Mosman Park for a while (and Meekatharra for a shorter bit).

Don't worry BCP, happens a lot! Scotland's too cold for me......
The plot is in the Burns Beach area, to the north of Perth city. It sounds unbelievable but the house builders there are quoting higher prices than what I paid in the UK a couple of years ago! daylight robbery.....might do it myself at this rate

Jonty,
Perth (WA) is really very expensive for anything labour intensive at the moment, as the mining industry is
paying top dollar for workers.
Anything prefab is also dear because the mines are taking everyone they can build
You might have been better off buying an established house

Sorry Jonty, have to agree with SKP on this one. Most our staff have been lost to the mines as well and is forcing the wages in town to creep up just to maintrain some balance.. Any labour intensive job in town now costs a fortune...
Don't feel too bad as I'm also looking at building/renovating in Melbourne and prices have gone through the roof here as well...
What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

Jonty,
I run a building company from Qld but we have an office in Perth and long standing team of sub-contractors (tradesman). We generally do semi-commercial work but we have done 1 luxury house over there, back in 2005. I have capacity over there at present, but can't really help you with design. PM me if you would like to discuss further.

one other thing you might like to keep in mind is the importance you guys place over a home as a lifestyle where we have it as a place to sleep and entertain more or less
