Both yes and no so no help there sorry just depends how bad it is, but by the sound of it yours sounds ok however ? also other problems could be broken trigger wire to starter, faulty brake switch, bad relay F16 engine bay fuse box also check Fuse 61 behind glove box . so many options it just becomes guess work without fault codes.D4 GS let the retro fit begin

no ........AA dude didn't 'plug in' to read the codes so don't know I'm afraid
I don't have the opportunity to muck around with the car in the work car park so I'm in two minds.......
a) Recovery to home to poke and prod if its a quick(ish) fix
b) Recovery to a garage and let them deal with it
with option b) - I have no idea what garage though!!
Thks for the replies
In that case I would personally get it transported home so u then know it’s safe and allows to charge both batteries
Then either order an Autel AP200 ( white version ) or the Gap iid
Personally have the gap iid , also found owning a multimeter and test lights invaluable
At least u know the code reader will pay for itself and depending what codes a direction to follow
Hope that helps

after what seems like ages, the disco is getting recovered from the work car park to an independent LR garage in Warrington.
Daft question......if it won't start, how do I get it out of 'Park' and onto the recovery truck????2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

Saw exactly the same on a friends car a few months back, was the earth cable, AA man did manage to put a temp one on until he had it done properly. There were no codes.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Most likely problem easily fixed in short term with a jump lead! Still havent got round to a permanent fix for mine ,its been 4 months now (not jump lead though )

After a couple of days at RWB motors in Warrington - ALL FIXED !!!!!
Route of problem still uncertain although new earth strap was fitted - still wouldn't go.
Few other bits of tinkering.
Reconfigured (?) keyless Go Module - BINGO!!
They also suspect it has something to do with the Aux Start / Stop battery (?)2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us
