Extended Roof Rail Question

Hi everyone,

About to fit extended roof rails to my Disco and wanted to know what others have done when fittiing the plastic front caps as per diagram below: -

When I did my Freelander many years ago, I was advised to use SikaFlex on the inside if the plastic cappings to stop them from flying off on the breeze at high speeds.

Worked a treat on the Freelander and I've never lost a capping. Anyone advise if they've done similar when fitting the D4 rails?

Cheers,

Jason

Hi

Don’t know if it’s possible on these rails as funny enough on my old FL1 I used some cable ties to prevent them coming off / being nicked

Plus I wonder if it would be beneficial to put some sealant underneath each bolt on the rails

Hopefully someone else will be along to assist u further

You shouldn’t need anything, but you should hear a reassuring click when you snap it down.
However, if would give you peace of mind, then add a drop of Sicaflex.
Just be aware though if you need to remove it, as it will be more difficult.
eg for re- painting, as was the case with mine after my pressure washer wore through the paint.

I did exactly that when fitting the rails on my D3... the slightly lower quality of the after market rails verses the LR genuine items really shows up in the plastic fittings... but still not worth the extra money (IMHO).

Never had an issue with the end caps once fitted.
