Timing Belt Replacement Scheduel TDV6 |
|
Just got a quote from my dealer for the 96,000 kilometers service, was told the service was $300 and replacement of timing belts on the TDV6 was $2700, all up $3000, thats a lot of bickies
I was under the impression that the timing belts only needed replacing at 105,000 miles (168,000k), see http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic16828.h...placement.
I would like to know what the replacement schedule really is in Australia. At the very least I will be getting several quotes for the timing belts before I get the job done.

Well that seems a tad high. Would i be wrong to say a timing belt is a 2 day job for one person? 16h @ $100/hour? That would leave $1100 for parts. If my new timing belt cost that much, it would bloody well want to last 105000 miles!

Very Dodgy quote!
Just changed a timing belt in SWMBO's subaru, $100 for the belt and 4 hours.
Hard to see the Rover taking more than 8hrs, There just are not that many pieces to take out and put back! TDV6

The rubber camshaft timing belt is at the front of the engine and therefore should be "quick" to change. The other rubber belt is for the high pressure fuel pump and it is at the back of the engine, now that is a dog of a job to do with the engine on the car but it can be done. Previous posts indicate belt changes at 165k. '06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

I have talked to another LR dealer re timing belts, was told 168k and $1595, phoned my dealer back and was told timing gear now comes in a kit to be installed at $1750 and still says their bulletins are saying 96k but is checking with LR for an update.
I am going ahead with 96k service but not timing belts.
PS I was also told the oil they now use is 0W 30 not the 5W 30 in the handbooks.
Thanks for the input,
