Same situation here 2016 D4. I asked my garage (Alltrack 4x4) who they have the best results from and he recommended the top RAC policy. £1500 for 3 years. Previously with Warranty direct

Crank failure not covered by LR warranty |
|
Fortunately, I do have a full LR Service history- and so far, in my three years of owning my D4, I have had my money’s worth from the warranty (compressor and oil level sensor) - but the point was, I was talking directly to LR Warranty regarding renewal when he said crank failure wouldn’t be covered if I tow. He said it was a known design fault, and would be JLR’s responsibility. It is certainly a grey area. I will write to both JLR and LR Warranty to get some form of clarification.
I love my disco - and have enjoyed owning a D1, D2 and D3 over the past 20 years. It a terrific tow car - and promoted as a class leader as such - so I can’t see how they could deny it has cover.
Frustrating, since up until now, I thought I had that particular “sword of Damocles” covered.

not sure about your comment ...not covered if you tow....NOT COVERED FULL STOP...the car is a reknown towing machine..its designed to tow 3.5 tons
the design fault point was made many moons ago...AND THEY STILL CARRIED ON MAKING THEM
sadly we are picking up the cost...surprised the forum over the years hasnt taken the fight to landrover
think its fair to say not many failures happen whilst towing...many just going on their merry way and BANG

Just did a quick check on what is covered on the RAC warranty. No diagnostics and no wear and tear on anything more that 6 years old. Gary

Mine was just under 6 years old on the day it was taken out and therefore covered for both for the next 3 years.

When I purchased my D4, the garage recommended the RAC warranty as they have no issues dealing with them when making a claim.
Previously our old D3 had warrantywise and they were fine, replaced a full driveshaft and other bits when the cv went on the billing off road course at the LRO show without any arguing.

Hi, I just snuck in for the full RAC warranty package as my D4 is 3 days shy of 6 years old 👍
I’ve been happy with WD up to now with a couple of claims paid out with no fuss, but they wanted £3,300 to extend for one year.
RAC is £1,100 for 3 years peace of mind.

For a6 year old car, that sounds too good to be true, even just a compressor would be more than half of that! Does it cover wear and tear? Joined the BMWX5 45e group

It does Dave, if you take it at less than 6 years old and under 60k miles you can get the Premium Plus policy.
No limit on each claim, up to the value of the vehicle.
Looks ok to me, time will tell 🤞
