Rear suspension advice - another MOT fail
Hi all,
Just looking for some advice please. I recently took my Dad’s D3 for an MOT and it failed on the bushes in the front lower suspension arms. I’ve just replaced these with new Meyle HD arms / bushes. Took it to a different garage to be put through MOT again as I wanted the 4 wheel alignment done at the same time and the previous garage don’t have the equipment. This time it’s failed on the rear which wasn’t even mentioned as an advisory just a week ago.
Nearside Rear Upper Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn front pin bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Lower Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn pin bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Upper Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn front pin bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Lower Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn pin bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Anti-roll bar ball joint excessively worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Anti-roll bar ball joint excessively worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))
What are my best options here? New complete rear upper / lower arms or attempt to remove them intact and replace the bushes? I was able to remove all the bolts from the front lower arms without problem but I realise this may not be the case for the rear. It’s also worth mentioning that I don’t own a hydraulic press or bush kit although I’m assuming I could buy one and new bushes for less than new upper / lower arms?
If it looks like new arms are the best option are there any in particular that are recommended? Oh and I guess the last option is to have the MOT done again at the original garage? Although I don’t want to leave it if it needs fixing.
Thanks,
Jamie.

If the bushes are worn in the knuckle then you will need some sort of press to remove/fit them in situ.
Doubt it would be man enough to change the bushes in the arms themselves?

Fitted and Waxoyled.
Agreed.
By the time you, or a garage have butchered their way in to get the arms off, it's easier to cut them out.
I changed my rear upper control arms recently to these:
MEYLE/ Lemforder with serious bushes ( not the fluid filled type)
Advanced Factors Kit 615HD with bolt kit incl.

Rear lower arms weren't needed, so left them alone. I put new LR part anti roll bar bushes in too.
Also worth looking at your brake pipe sections, and the small C shape retaining clip when you order. The Advanced Factors parts diagram is handy and helps.
Factor in a Hunter 4 wheel alignment too.
