Tappet? Timing Belt? What could it be, knocking?
Have had the timing chain & cam belt changed but still have a tapping, ticking noise.
Centre says to drive it for a little bit and it should quieten down...
It does seem to quieten down ever so slightly after engine warms up but still noticable next to walls and parked next to cars.
Been recommended an oil pump change also if the issue doesnt go away.

hi kim0785b
as a non expert it sounds like a injector seal has failed. (little copper washer at the bottom of the injectors)

I would be getting that checked out by somebody who knows something about them before driving it much further.
Im slightly puzzled by the chain they may have changed ? Where did you get the work done as the term 'centre' has got alarm bells ringing.

I would say that is defo a mechanical noise and it wont get any better driving it, I would not be running that engine at all until you have had it looked at, by someone who has a clue.
Did it make the noise before the belt change?

Please remove your oil filler cap while ticking over and see if the sound can be heard to be replicated through the rocker cover.
Maybe pop a video of the tick over with filler cap removed.A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

If the timing chains have been changed, then the injectors would have been removed and washers replaced. I would assume that whoever replaced the chains would've checked the followers as they would have had to remove the cam shafts, but it is possible they didn't.
Best advice, get it to a good local independent LR garage and have them listen to it. Videos of engine noises are useless.Joe

Why did they change the timing chain? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

An oil change won’t stop that knocking, there is a mechanical defect, or oil supply problem, and as said above, it needs someone who knows what they are doing, to strip it down and find the problem.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

As above belts will not cause knocking but the belts may have needed changing anyway, obviously whoever changed the belts are not fully conversant with D3’s.It can when others can't,

going in for an oil pump change as it seems the oil isnt reaching the top of the engine and the head tappets with lower oil pressure perhaps. Anyone else having trouble getting parts perhaps?
Noticed also the car vibrates slightly on pickup, ever so slightly noticable.
Thanks for replies it makes me sleep at night ha

Make sure they cut the oil filter open when they change the oil. Personally I wouldnt be driving the vehicle until they had. If they're a good indy why havent they already??

Oil pump wasnt replaced at the same time as didnt have one in stock and back orders delayed.
Decided not to drive it very much until the next drop at the garage, but on the motorway the sound does quieten down a little.
Have everything from con-rods, tappets, oil pressure discussions.

If oil is not reaching the tappets you should not be driving it, certainly not on a motorway. In theory if the oil pump is failing it should get worse the hotter the engine gets. Take the oil filler cap off and with a torch look inside for oil after the engine has been running, if it’s dry don’t run it.
Can’t the garage do an oil pressure test on the engine?
How many miles has the engine done?It can when others can't,
