Towing tyre Pressures.

First time towing with the Disco tomorrow - Have towed with previous cars though, so am interested to see how this performs compared to the other car we had and this Caravan.

Just a quick query about the tyre pressure..

Front 33 Rear 36 - "normal"
Front 36 Rear 42 - "loaded"

Towing a twin axle Buccaneer which is best part of 2000kg, so by no means max for the car, so what have people found to be the best pressures. Will have some weight in the boot but by no means fully loaded, prob 150kg or so.. Somewhere between the lower and upper recommendations ?

Cheers
Thumbs Up

Yep, I do thanks, that is where the pressures came from. Well, actually from the sticker on the door frame, as I don't believe manuals state pressure for the specific car.

My question was really hoping for some practical experience from the wealth of knowledge on this forum. As we wont be fully loaded, up to 3500kg towing and car loading, is there any benefit in going to a somewhere between the lower and upper ranges.

I always run my tyre pressure slightly higher than standard, but I don't change it for towing. I guess the nose weight on your van will be 75 - 100kg, which isn't much in terms of a nearly 3 ton car. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the towing ability of the Disco.

England

On my D3’s when towing our Twin axle Abbey (1800kg) I would run a couple of psi higher on the rears just to firm up the rear a touch. It felt a bit less bouncy this way.

Running at 100kg noseweight.

Thankyou for the replies.

Our nose weight is around 140kg, so will up the rears to around max I think, especially with the dog crate and stuff in the boot..

Just seen the wind gusts for today,, gulp... Will just take it steady.

I’d have the fronts at 35psi. From trial and error over 13 years, I found that to be the best all round pressure.

I kept the rears at 39psi which was a good all round pressure. Only increasing it for heavy loads over longer distances.

I never used to change the pressures when towing a friends twin axle plant trailer.

Scotland

Twin axle tin tent, nose weight 110kgs when level.
I use 35 fronts and 40 rears and all seems well, I leave them at that all the time. I got the wheels balanced last week and the fitter reduced the tyre pressure to the light load settings all round and it all felt a bit wierd tbh

Very similar to everyone else I run 36psi front and 40psi rear... I'd rather have them a bit firmer with load on the back (I regularly tow a trailer)...
I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
