For any one interested,
Got a Denso style oex alternator, 570 dollars in repco, decision was made based on the fact they had stock.
Bit of a feck around with the fan nut but got a bigger spanner and bigger hammer and was away.
All looks good so far. No smoke. Battery light gone and 14.2 v reading when running.
Love this forum and the people in it.
Thanks.

As I have indicated and a previous post, I was in the position that I had to take an OEX or the car was going to be off the road for a while. I already had a OEX 24v to 12v smart charger that worked well and looked like a quality product so I got the OEX alternator.
However I did google it afterward and found it to be a quality product made in the Republic of China as against the Peoples Republic of China - huge difference in reputation and quality of products between the two.
The unit certainly looks identical to the Denso and fits up exactly the same - after a number of years I have had no problems and it continues to generate lots of green steam.
