D4 SDV6 Alternator Replacement Drama |
|
So I read all the threads, watched all the videos, got a best mate to help me and we go. Fan etc was remarkedly easy, clips on the old alternator a bit of a hassle but all fine until it came to putting back in the new one. For love nor money we could not get reposition the new one far enough back whichever angle we bolted on the positive wire, by this stage we were 3.5 hours in!
In the end we resolved this by removing the lower panel underneath by the front axle and there is wire in a blacked ribbed shealth at the back which was preventing it all from happening. You need to snip the plastic clip which is holding the wire and reposition the sheath and finally bingo! 5 hours later

At least you didn’t punch a hole in the radiator trying to slide the old one out…
