Goodyear Eagle F1s

So the Disco is going to need some new tyres soon. I don't use it offroad really, it's more towing and lugging stuff around.

It came fitted with Goodyear Wranglers and, too be honest, I was pleased with them, ride was good and they lasted for approximately 60,000 miles, believe it or not.

I then fitted Pirelli Scorpions and they really haven't lasted, less than 30,000 miles.

My local Costco can't get Goodyear Wranglers but can get Goodyear Eagle F1s and they have a special offer on £409.56 for 4 tyres, fitted.

Has anybody got any experience/opinions on F1s?

Not with the SUV version, but on several fast road cars and they were great. A very grippy all round performance tyre.

In my opinion, they are maybe a bit overkill on a Discovery which you’re not going to be flinging through the bends. They’ll have a high silica content which means they’ll probably wear quicker.

Very much on road use only, but the TR system on your Discovery will still get you further off road than most people will ever need, regardless of the tyres.

Interesting point on the wear. As you say, the Disco is never going to be flung round bends. I would prefer Wranglers but they ain't got them.

Owned the old girl for 13 years, from new so yes TR is great for my use, ie. grassy fields and bumpy tracks

I had F1s on a seriously modified Audi Quattro, and to be honest they were the only tyre that allowed me to use the car to it's potential, however, 12,000 miles was the best I ever got out of them, usually 10,000.

Obviously the SUV tyre has different build processes, but the F1 tyre is known as a very grippy soft compond tyre, which does not bode well for a heavy vehicle if you want them to last more than a year.

Make sure they are the right tyre... Costco offered them to me a couple of years back but they didn't have correct load rating for a Discovery.

Had some Eagle F1s on a Volvo V70 years ago, and they really weren't that impressive, especially in the snow.

I think the F1’s are maybe Y rated in that size.

That’s a good price though. I reckon you’ll be looking at approx £150 each (fitted) for Wranglers.

Not sure the F1’s are really what you want though. Thumbs Up

I think I'm coming to that conclusion myself. I don't need them right now I'll wait to see if Costco can get me some Wranglers.

Meanwhile I need to get that Censored suspension sorted once and for all

I have the F1s on my RRS, they are really good tyres - I even did a few rocky off-road trails with them without any damage.

I knew I'd shared in on here!

Costco tyres were 107 rating, not 111.

Hmmm, interesting read. Mine are definitely 111V's.

I am coming to the conclusion that the best tyre for me is the Goodyear Wrangler HP All Weather, which, I think were the original tyres that came with the car (I still have the spare).

All I can say is the Pirelli Scorpions were not impressive, they had about 1/2 the life of the original Goodyears.

Costco don't do the Wrangler HP All Weather right now so I'll do a bit of ringing around as I'm not desperate as I've still got a few millimeters to go.

Always had Wranglers on mine but deals were plentiful not now ! I’m probably going to swap to Avon AX7 next time which will be next month or so.
