Mixed profiles front & back

I may get shot down in flames for asking this, who knows..

my D3 has 20" RR wheels on apparently that currently run 255/55/20
i need to replace the front 2 soon and it looks like a better choice if i go to 255/50/20.

would it cause issues if i run the rears at 55 profile and the fronts at 50 profile?

Thanks

Hi

Personally wouldn’t ever do that , there’s an inch difference between the 50 and 55 and think ur traction control and centre diff would also get very confused and causing damage

Indeed on a 4x4 all the tyres should be the same size

Hope that helps

The different sizes would result in the front and rear axles turning at different speeds to each other. The traction control would see this as one axle losing traction and would try to regain traction by applying the brakes to the faster rotating wheels - in this case the front axle. That's going to be a pain to drive, for a start, but will also overheat your brakes pretty quickly. The centre diff lock might also be brought in to play causing it to run partially or fully locked which will obviously increase temperature of the transfer box and eventually throw up a warning.

I reckon eventually it'll just throw a big sulk and give you a dashboard full of lights - it's the Land Rover way. Rolling with laughter
