Is it working??

Hey guys,

I'm a relative newbie to Discovery ownership - bought my D3 2.7 TDV6 in the summer and I've slowly resolved all the known and some unknown issues and I love the car.

I'm a bit confused with my FBH though. When the temp dropped this winter I discovered that it doesn't work, much to my annoyance. Anyway, I took it to a local independent to look at (along with a few other bits) and they said that they reset it and primed it and got it all fired up....only charged me £60+ VAT for the diagnostic....cheapest bill to date!

However, over the weekend the temp was below 5 degrees and I excitedly started the car to see if it fired up but as far as I could tell it didn't! To confirm, the car had 3/4 tank of diesel and it was displaying 3 degrees. I assumed that I'd see obvious diesel smoke from the little exhaust poking out by the nearside front wheel but I didn't see anything come out of it. I couldn't feel any heat or hear any noises either.

If it was working, would it be obvious?

I’d say it’s not working.

I think you remove the fbh fuse near the battery for 30 secs to reset it. (Do that next time it looks like it’s going to be cold in the morning )

Needs its fault codes reading

I had the codes read before and there was a glow plug fault. Kind of expected the dealer to find the same thing and go from there so was surprised that they said it just fired up??

I recently helped a forum member who had a non working FBH.

Using my IID I did a fuel test, then a start test. The latter failed and gave me an E7 code, one which I couldn't find a definition for.

After several attempts to force a start, it eventually did fire up, and apparently it worked the following day as it should have.

Worth a try if you can find someone with an IID and 20 mins to spare.

Hi,

if its running well you should Not see any smoke, but it is easy to check if its working.

once you car has been started you can feel for any exhaust gas coming from the pipe you mention
or
you can lift the bonnet you should be able to hear the FBH running
or
you can feel for heat from the exhaust at the side of the FBH
or
you can feel the water hose coming from the FBH to see if its getting warm

it should run for more than a couple of minutes once it does run

and Take Care with any of the above as its Hot gases or Water your dealing with Shocked

Thumbs Up
