£720 for propshaft replacement

Hi team,

I have had a quote of £720 for propshaft replacement by LR. Is that right? The part I think is about £250ish.

Not physically able to do it myself, what’s the best option?

Is that front or rear ? My rear prop cost just over £300 for a GKN one from Advanced Factors, so I expect one from a dealer would be quite a bit more for the part alone + fitting.

Yes, that’s it, but yours may be a different part number for a late D4, it has come down in price from about £320. Big Cry But I have heard since that the warranty from GKN is a bit iffy, so don’t know if that may be an issue. Bolts are meant to be replaced also, I renewed the rear ones, but not the fronts.

It’s a relatively easy job to do, I think any decent garage with a lift could do it in less than an hour.
Thumbs Up

That's for models up to 2015, the OP has a 2016. Advanced Factors not showing a listing for the later shaft but the do mention it here;

Yes, I noticed that, but didn’t realise late D4’s only had a 1 speed transfer box Rolling Eyes There may be other suppliers out there though other than AF, that list the correct prop.

Doesn't that diagram just say there were 1 and 2 speed xfer boxes after a given VIN and you pick the one you need?

Does that mean there are some late model D4s that only have one speed(high) gear boxes? Shocked
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I can’t answer that I’m afraid. Perhaps the OP can enlighten us as to whether that is the case, or whether there was an option to have a 2 speed tfr box.

As far as im aware there was only ever a two speed transfer box . Its not like it became an issue with late ones as the set up is exactly the same in a D5.

Agreed. PITA lying on your back under the car trying to put the neccessary torque into the bolts at the diff end. I'm a big guy but I was struggling
