I just wonder how much longer they would last if they had a simple grease nipple or two fitted like in the good old days. Whistle

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

They also need a beefier replacement for the woefully under engineered centre bearing assembly that is supplied with them. Whistle

I had a GKN replacement rear propshaft fitted. The rubber bit of the bearing had gone. Are the centre bearings on the GKN ones any better?

The rubber support part is still very thin and flimsy in my view, so probably no better than the original factory fitted one it replaced. Rolling Eyes
Despite AF assuring me it would be packaged well, it arrived with a bent lug on the centre bearing, they lied, (no packing at all around that part) Rolling Eyes Luckily it straightened out ok, and now fitted. But, if I’m honest, I’m a bit dubious about buying things like this from them in the future.

Sadly that wont help, the problem is a u/j is the wrong joint for this application, the prop is pretty much fixed as is the diff end, so whilst the u/j goes round and round it does not change angle, and this is why the thing tends to partially seize.

galwaygreen, wow, that is a low mileage for this to happen Shocked ….I see you have a 2016 D4, to try and clear up an earlier question, does yours have a 1 speed, or 2 speed transfer box ?

24k for mine to go, middle bearing, absolute joke. I know another car manufacturer 4x4, the rear prop on that, no grease nipples on the uj's still going at 165k. Often wonder if the slight delay in moving from rest and then the fighter jet take off as 250hp comes in has anything to do with it.

After further digging on the WWW, the prop shaft LR050890 is for D4 models with 1 speed transfer box from VIN EA000001......export models?

I suspect the person quoting you has presumed you have the single speed transfer box and priced the job accordingly?

Might be worth a phone call to check?

I personally have never seen a D4 with 1 speed transfer box but I have never seen a D5 with a single speed transfer box but I know they exist.

On a side note there is a prop for sale in the classifieds.
