It's clutch time.
so finally after a 108k miles the clutch is starting to fail. Peddle is getting very stiff. I don't think I can complain when so many people have had them fail at a lot less mileage. I'm not going to do this myself. It's just to big a job for me but I was wondering about the DMF. I've had flywheels which have done over 200k and ones which have been knackered at 60k. Are the D3 ones known to last. Or should I just get it done while it's in bits[/b]

^^^As Moo say's it's not worth going back in there, even though a complete LUK (OEM) will make your eyes water it's still better than taking it out again!
I have done at least 8 of them and only had one that didn't need a new DMF at that point, but I fitted it anyway. (manual seems to be more common over here) yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

As above - do the job right, do it once.
Also. Make sure the exhaust manifold is checked while the gearbox is off and make sure they mount the support bracket properly too! You don’t want a blowing exhaust manifold shortly after.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

150k with a lot of towing recently no issues with clutch
TBH a "stiff pedal" is normally a linkage or cylinder problem rather than actual clutch plate

Mine had three clutches in its first 90k miles, the last one done 1k miles before I got it (at 90k).
I've done 50k miles since with the same clutch.Richard

Sounds like prior owner used the clutch pedal as a foot rest ??

Yeah, the previous owner suggested his wife held it on the clutch, on a hill outside their kids school every day! Richard

wish i hadn't opened my big mouth. clutch slipped badly while joining a motorway today, 3rd gear foot to the floor to build some speed up, Now its got the XY fault.....
Clutch seems to fine after driving sensibly. It dose not appear to be slipping even when floored, but i have noticed the revs drop to almost a stall, with the clutch pedal fully down and coming to a stop.....
Like the clutch is not fully disengaged. ??
Will have a look at the fluids tomorrow and try a XY reset and see....
Anyone fancy dropping a gearbox on the drive in the bloody snow ??

If you keep off the cruise control and have a light go fast foot, you might get away without any XYZ or clutch calibration faults until it's replaced. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Mine has had phases of slipping, and then not. Hasn't slipped in the last 20,000 miles. I'm not convinced it's actually always a worn friction plate that can cause it to slip.Richard
