Changing air strut - when to drop air
Hi all - sorry, basic one here - have done the job before but I can't for the life of me remember the correct way to do it.
Changing one of the front struts this weekend, and no sophisticated tool so I'll just me dropping the air out of the strut by loosening the voss connector on top of the strut - but when do I do this? Once the car is up?
Also, normal height before jacking?
My memory has failed me here!
Cheers

Take all the weight off the wheels before you let any air out! Axle stands under the chassis.Richard

Plus 1 with regards to the axle stands
Personally when I changed the front struts , I put it into off road height , removed fuse F26 from the engine bays fuse box , cracked the wheel nuts slightly loose
Jacked it up till the wheels were off the ground , placed an axle stand under the chassis and lowed the jack onto it
As I was going to replace both the front ones I gained access to the front valve block and loosened each voss connector on each strut , then waited for the air to stop coming out
I replaced all my voss connectors for brass pushfit fittings , also got some nyloc nuts for the top of the struts as they didn’t come with the new struts , found using a ratchet spanner , socket extensions with some ujs made it a little easier to get the old nuts off
plus just remembered , I used a scissor jack under the bottom wishbone to aid getting the bottom bolt in
Hope that also helps a little

Also found some of the torque wrench settings for u, remember I needed to get a bigger torque wrench for the bottom strut bolt, 300nm
Plus hopefully you’ve already got one , i had to get a deep socket for the bottom strut bolt, sorry can’t remember the size

Hi mate , hope this finds u well
Never forget , jacked the disco up and put all the axle stands underneath , took the jack away and then realised I hadn’t cracked the wheel nuts loose ,
