Gear selector indicator sensor issue D3 V6TD

I am looking for a fix here.

When I put my manual D3 into 6th the gear selector indicator trips out and goes in to error E mode. Then the auto handbrake trips a few minutes later.

I took it to my local guys and was told that there is enough wear in my gear selector that when I put it into 6th I am moving the magnet attached to the gear stick beyond the sensor and it freaks out.

If I change to 6th very very gingerly I can avoid this, but it is a pain. I have been told by my LR guys that it is a gearbox out job to sort and may require a new gearstick assembly.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Cheers

The selector is accessible from inside the cabin and without gearbox removal.

I would suggest you have the codes read before commencing any work, just to rule out the xyz sensor or any clutch slip. (Both will cause you're issue!)

I have never known the D3 to have any issue with the selector other than the rear circlip failing (rare) Or, the detent spring failing (different issue)

How are you resetting the fault when it occurs?

Sorry, I have had a hell of a year,

where were we?

Oh yes, to reset the error I simply turn him off, wait 10 seconds and then turn him back on again, he is good to go, no issues unless I select 6th
