Hi there,
Heard a few noises last night whilst driving and also some awful metal grinding noises coming from the rear drivers side.
After doing a casual search here.last.night,.it pointed me in the direction of checking for play in the wheel bearing.
Jacked it up and bingo, loads of play in wheel. Absolutely !
I assume the metal grinding was coming from the disc rubbing either on the pads or the back plate.
Read the replacement instructions in the Haynes manual , and I don't have access to a press so ruled out doing a DIY job .
Found a you tube vid, where a guy uses a sleeve pulling kit and a homemade bracket , but time constraints and need for me to fix it fast and reliably have led me to think this is a garage job.
I've seen one local indy suggest it's a 400 quid job for a timken replacement. Is that about right?
Any recommendations for someone near Chorley to do this job?
Many thanks . 2008 Discovery 3 xs 2.7 TDV6

I think someone on here was doing an exchange hub.

Mine was found on an MOT, some play, but no noise. I used a hydraulic press at work to extract the old bearing, but installed the new one at home using a threaded bar type of bearing tool. Simon.

It's also a good time to change the backplates if they are seriously rusty.

I have a complete hub for the driver side, complete with new bearing , back plate and top and bottom bushes.

Ah shoot. Only just saw your message just now.
Probs would have had it off you to save faffing. Kinda desperate to get back on the road.
Got a hub from eBay, but it wasn't very good. The bearing on the hub was seized/very tight to turn so I've ended up buying a new bearing and backing plate . Will have to get someone to press it out and in.
