Key FOB charging

Hi all

I had my key fob replaced just over 2 years ago, new battery & casing for my 2006 D3. However it appears the battery has again died, which raises a couple of queries

Firstly does anyone have any experience of how long do you normally get out of replaced battery, I believe it was a rechargeable battery which was changed through a reputable provider

Secondly, I was under the impression that the key fob battery is charged when in the ignition switch, is this correct and is there any way of checking the charging circuit?

any responses appreciated

hope you all have a great christmas & New year

You're right - the batteries are supposed to be kept charged by an induction coil in the ignition barrel area.

Don't know of any way of testing them (the charging circuit).

One of my original keys (from 2005) is still working and has never had the battery changed.
