HDC Fault- System Not Available (that old chestnut :( )

Hi All,

Disco3 been running well for ages then once I unloaded some wet fence wood from the back that had been in their for a week or so and the missus gave it an inside clean I ended up with the following -

- HDC Fault SYSTEM not Available
- Suspension lowering
- Special Programs not available
Crying or Very sad

The car was quite damp inside due to the wood so dried it out with a dehumidifier. (may not be relevant but thought I'd mention) Rolling Eyes

If I clear the code and drive literally half a mile down the road at around 30 (literally to the meter) the Disco engages either the brakes or front diff(??) with a grind which slows the car down and pulls to the side a little..

I then get the above messages and picture below and the following errors on my icarsoft i930 scanner-

- B1A00 - Instrument control module -> Control module
- U0416 - Ride level control module -> Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module
- U0416 - All terrain control -> Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module
- C1B00 - Vehicle dynamics control module -> steering angle sensor

I can carry on driving with the lights on the dash in limp mode and can clear them OK but if I repeat the process it does exactly the same like clockwork

I've so far tried the following -

- Check brake lights
- Replace brake switch
- Checked the TCCM (no corrosion or fried chips looks pretty decent)
- Replace the battery with the Excide Premium 900A

At a loss at this point any ideas on what to try next or is it a trip to the local LR service centre? Confused

Thanks in advance!!

BoB

Recalibrate the Steering angle sensor, takes seconds
Did you do a hard reset when you changed the battery, if not worth a shot and was the battery charged?

Charge original battery and fit
Calibrate sterrring angle sensor.

Or if you press the dsc button it should allow you to drive

It's not a sticking brake is it? Check temp of each wheel.

Wow that was quick Smile thanks for the fast response and suggestions... Thumbs Up

Funny I am just reading about the Steering Sensor as someone mentioned concentrating on the 'C' errors...(potential issues with the steering column/plastic yellow ring issue?)

Sorry couple of quick questions on the replies if ok..

- To re-calibrate the steering sensor can I do this with my icraftsoft i930 scanner or do I need a more professional tool?

- How do I do a hard reset if I was to disconnect the battery is that a wire between the positive battery terminal and the disconnected negative cable to dissipate the residual power (ie. ) ?

- Any reason the brakes (or front diff??) came on briefly when I was driving right before the errors or is that normal for these types of error?

Thanks again guys!
BoB

PS - I didn't charge the new battery but had the engine running for a while once started..

The brakes come on, as it thinks the car is out of control.
Realises it isn’t and shuts down.
As I said, pressing DSC in the dash will stop this

Hi Pete, Drove down the road again today, lights came on as expected pressed DSC and it didnt seem to do anything :S what should that do? When the brakes do come on (not all the time) they do let me continue just in limp mode

Ah lol my bad Laughing

Back to the error on my iCarSoft ->(C1B00 - Vehicle dynamics control module -> steering angle sensor)

Driving in a straight line/steering wheel straight & using my iCarsoft i930 I can see a value of around 50-60 degrees I would have expected 0..?!

How does the SAS work if I drive down the road for half a mile and the HDC lights come on? Does it detect if the SAS is out of kilter for a small period of time or distance it engages Limp Mode (for safety)?

If this is my problem it would make sense (not sure why it would suddenly be out of alignment :S) then it's made my decision to get the iCarsoft LR3.0 which I believe allows me to re-calibrate it, which I'd assume would once I have the wheels straght would set the value back to 0 degrees..!?

Thanks for all the help so far chaps! Bow down

bobmclane the iCarsoft LR3.0 wont recalibrate your sas, its just a diagnostic tool.

I'm experiencing a similar issue after replacing bottom control arm, which despite my best efforts its knocked the alignment completely out of whack.
Getting alignment done tomorrow then go from there.

Have you had any luck resolving your problems yet ?
