Compressor relay turning off

Evening all

Fitted a new compressor to solve various issues including not exhausting pressure

Trouble is that it only runs for a few seconds and then the computers switches off the relay
Consequently it can't build pressure and is only showing around 200Kpa

Apart from the pressure sensor is there anything else that will tell the computer to switchoff the compressor?

Not running hot

Does the same on both the new and old compressors

Andu advice would be gratefullt recieved.....

Is the relay being turned off or is it turning itself off due to a fault? Normally when replacing a compressor the relay on the engine bay fuse box - I think the next relay on the board is the same so just swap around to check but definitely replace the relay for the long term.

Changed the relay along with the compressor, even tried the old one in again just incase with no difference

According to the box of tricks the relay switches off and a moment later an orange warning pings up on the dash and comes up with filling to slowly.

Its slowly driving me demented Very Happy

Not entirely sure what causes the relay to shut off.
Will get a preessure sensor on Monday but will run out of time to get parts before Christmas at this rate

I have read that yaw sensors can do it and wiring faults in various places but would have thought a wiring fault would prevent it working at all

Or the brand spanking Dunlop compressor doesn't work is the other possibility, but seems unlikely?

You can test the compressor by removing the relay, turning ignition on, and put a jumper across the two larger relay slots. This will run the compressor all the time the jumper is there. Also check the fuse alongside the relay for burn marks (they changed from 60 to 70 amps) as this can overheat.

Thanks Globetrotter, I'll give that a whirl this morning, its still got a 60 amp in there rather than a 70 amp so presume its never been changed

I take it that if I bridge the relay socket that it removes all the compressor inhibits?

I also presume that if the compressor runs but doesn't pressurise there can be no other option than the compressor being duff?

Thanks for the help!

I've just spent a couple of months looking at how the system does what it does by poking it and playing with it while logging with the iiD. The main compressor test is to close all valves (bags, reservoir), dump the gallery and then run the compressor. If it sees a pressure increase it'll open the reservoir valve and start to pump it up. If not then it quickly turns the compressor off and error out.

So, it could be something as simple as a duff compressor, but it could also be a big leak in the exhaust valve, dryer cap or pretty much any pipework in the gallery.

Edit: or even an issue with the gallery pressure sensor.

I guess you need to consider the parts you have touched or changed as being faulty

Rather than something else failing within days.

As said, bypass the compressor
Get under the car and see if pipes leaking
Then disconnect the small pipe
And see if compressor working

Thanks gents

Spent a couple of hours on it this morning and the brand spanking Dunlop compressor is duff. Not pressurising at all
Put the original slightly ropey Hitachi back on and its building air and rising up to normal ride height. Not good enough to lift up to off road mode relaibly but its up off the bumpstops.

Salutory lesson, just because a part is new don't assume its good!

Put the old one back on and its getting up to around 1200Kpa, best I got out of the new one was around 200Kpa
