Strange wind/whistle noise in my D4 |
|
Morning all, i am hoping some one may of had the same issue at some point and know what this is, i have had a search of previous topics but all seem to be D3 seal related.
i have had my D4 from new, 2014. Before Christmas i had it serviced and a new windscreen fitted at same time, now since then i have gained a whistle/wind noise. it may be coincidence or related i am not sure.
The noise is faint and a single pitch, comes and goes and is difficult o pin point were it comes from, it sounds like it from middle of the dash.
As soon as i get to 40mph the noise disappears and it is only apparent from car being started from cold. i can't help but think its an air con flap or something but either way it is starting to bug me.
Any help please? thanks

New windscreen fitted would be my first suspicion.... have a really good look at the seal around the lower edge.. the fact it is single pitch (whistle?) and speed related suggests that to me.
If you can't replicate the noise when stationary and aircon on full blast then even more I'd say windscreen seal...
Edit - I must have dreamt the speed part rereading the OP, sorry. I still would give the windscreen seals a good check over Jim

Pay special attention to the windscreen to roof strip. Mine became dislodged after a pressure wash and it whistled away at any speed especially around 30/40mph with the sound appearing to come from anywhere. Only found it after stopping in a layby and checking there and then.

Also check that the A pillar covers have been fitted back correctly... they should have fitted new plastic clips, if they didn't you might have your answer... I also added Sikaflex around mine to stop any water ingress.. I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I had real problems getting National Windscreens to rectify a badly fitted windscreen, they did get it right eventually on the third attempt.

+1 for the a-pillar trims. Mine whistled a fair bit on highway. Could even see the top corners lifting up. New clips resolved the issue for me

+1 for the a-pillar trim here too. Windscreen replacement without replacing the clips. New clips sorted the noise.
