Unsafe ride

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 2005 disco 3 as a bit of a project. The ride is all over the place. It feels like it's snaking anything over 30mph and the tc will come on to correct it. I know it could be numerous things but ant ideas of where to start would be great.

It has had a new handbrake module and compressor recently. From what I can see the 2 front airbags are original and 1 at the back looks recent.

It will drop on one side when left for 1-2 days.
The guy who I bought it off mentioned that it needed new bushes

Cheers

Hi

Must admit when I’ve bought a second hand car before and unsure I’ve run it through a Mot , of course if it fails will need to be taken off the road but assume ur not driving because of the way it drives

Have u got a code reader plse as with these vehicles being complicated having one is really a necessity , pays for themselves very quickly , either the cheaper Autel AP200 which is around £50 or what many of us have is a gap iid , there are around £420 , which does virtually everything ur ever need

So getting the codes read will at least give u a head start and then of course either a Mot or maybe a garage u know that can give it a once over

If ur bushings have gone I’ve personally found it better to replace the complete arms, if the front lowers or rear uppers are changed a full 4 x wheel alignment is required , but of course at the end of the day don’t know how many have gone

Hope I’m not being disrespectful in any way as don’t know ur mechanical knowledge or skill set , plus before I forget plse don’t ever get under the disco without axle stands as the air suspension will and can move

Forum is full of excellent and extremely knowledgeable members , along with a library of information

Hope that helps a little

For parts have found this company “ Advanced “ very good and extremely helpful

I'm no mechanic but I've owned a LR for a number of years now... I'd start with tyres (all the same make?, Pressures? Balance?) then work my way up from there (tracking, alignment etc), then suspension..

Having said that I'm no surgeon either and if I had a bad pain in my body I'd go see a Doctor, get admitted and have a professional sort me out, not do it myself...

Maybe a happy halfway house for you is take it to a good Indy and get a full inspection?...

Good luck and keep us informed...

Sounds scary! Like the guys have said might be best to get it in somewhere and have it up on a ramp. Snaking sounds like suspension bushes but don't forget to check wheel bearings and also look for any play in the steering rack and track rods. HTH.
