Jammed Oil Filter Cover
All my own fault...
Would really appreciate any suggestions.
So I was tightening the oil filter cover after a filter change.
I used a NEW torque wrentch set to 25Nm.
As the words 'This is too tight' went through my mind...
I sheared off the cover top nut.
I tried a strap wrench and it broke...
I tried a 3 leg wrench and that broke...
What are my options..?
And yeah I feel so stupid!
Any thoughts would really be appreciated.

U need to grip the outside of the housing in a uniform manner to reduce point stress. How about a strip of thin steel shim (say 0.25mm thick), form it into an over lapping tube (two layers thick) over something like an aerosol can), place over oil filter cap. Secure with 3 jubilee clips to get a good grip. Make sure wrap if shim is tall enough to protrude up well beyond cap. Cross drill it in two places so you can fit a bar across. Then use bar to undo?Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)

Are those tools made of cheese?
You could try putting some rope through the strap tool and see if that will get it. A sheet of sand paper doubled and wrapped around the filter housing will aid grip. Alternatively get a filter wrench but be patient, you don't want to shatter it!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks guys.
Will try out the rope idea first.
I have orderd some steel shim and will try that Sunday.
I guess the worst scenario is breaking it up and digging it out...
Has anyone ever done that before..?
Bit worried about debris dropping into the oil supply.
Will let you know how it goes!

What type of torque wrench were you using ? Some only work to the selected torque in one direction.
These torque wrenches usually have an arrow pointing which way they work and the square part the socket fits on can be pushed through to the other side so you can use it in the other direction.
I have seen many snapped wheel nuts were somebody has got it wrong using this type of torque wrench.Andrew

Find a piece of nylon rope the type used on mower pull starts, double it up and wrap it round the cap anti-clockwise until you have a small loop to push a lever through, it should grip sufficiently to undo it. Good luck
Hand tight is almost enough to tighten the cap as it is the O ring that makes the seal not the thread.

I would try the wrench which tightens the disks of the angle grinder.
Drill 2 holes acc. to pattern of wrench into the housing. Extend the wrench bottom to have a greater leverage.Achim

Right I have sourced some starter rope will give it a go.

I’d be drilling a hole through the filter housing and getting a long screwdriver to pass though it and allow you to twist it off. Obviously this will mean a new filter and cleaning the housing out thoroughly.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.
