Double DIN Stereo upgrade
Hi,
New to the forum and hoping to spend more time on it!
I have bought a Discovery 3 HSE with the Harmon Karden system and would like to upgrade to a double DIN Eonon 7" system. What connectors would I require to change over whilst keeping the top screen and full function of the steering wheel controls, etc. A post may have already been made but so far I am unable to find an up to date feature regarding new adapters that can be found on eBay.
Any help is much appreciated.
Many thanks
Connor

short answer is you cant keep the top screen once an aftermarket head unit is fitted, youll need a most bypass cable to bypass the amp. I have an Eonon 7" and its been great for the 2 1/2 years since i fitted it, i had the base system so it was plug and play.

Does that mean that you lose the 4x4 off-road display of the diff lockers and wheels?

And still enable you to retain the steering controls. I don't have an HSE, I have the SE.

Look on the small speakers by the door mirrors it will have your system written on the covers.
If its blank you have the base system which is very easy to change. Being an SE you most likely have the H&K system which has the Amp under the drivers seat that communicates with the head unit via the MOST fibre optics system.
You can replace the head unit and be able to keep the steering controls with the right kit but you will loose the top screen and the ability to change the clock if you have it on the dash. This method can work out quite expencive and the kits are availible from a company called Connect2
The alternative is to replace the top screen with a touch screen unit that gives you Android auto, apple play, google maps ect, and connects to the old head unit via the aux port.
And still enable you to retain the steering controls. I don't have an HSE, I have the SE.
Yes once you have the fascia kit any double din will fit, i didnt have wheel controls but added them after the stereo upgrade. Best part is you can map 2 functions to each wheel button, i have the mode button set to home screen and a long press starts the nav program.

My SE only had the standard radio in it (no amp under seat). I installed a Eonon double din in place of the old radio. I had to purchase a Facia kit plus adapter cable to make it all work. I lost the clock on the dash as that comes via the old radio setup. I have added a reversing camera into the Eonon and all works well. Have had the system for 3/4 years with no problems. You can also update the Android system if you like.
