clacking after turning the engine off |
|
Does anyone have any idea what this funny clacking noise might be which happens after turning the engine off? Transfer box perhaps?
Starts about 6 secs into the video - low range still works fine and makes a similar noise when it engages (albeit only one clack).

Changed the lower steering column yesterday, it put up a fight but don't think I knocked anything out of place!

Hello,
these are your EGR valves that clean themselves by moving several times. The noise gets louder over time as the mechanical components of the valve wear out. At some point, the mechanism will break down and you will have to replace the EGR.
Cheers

That’s what I said in a recent post (and the turbo vvt)
However Mike said if was the transfer box.
I think he said if needed recalibrating

Indeed a transfer box requiring calibration (and perhaps fresh fluid) will click upon shutoff. When it happened to mine it was two separate clicks, not the repeated clicking heard in the video. Transfer box also will produce a small shudder when making tight, low speed turns, almost as if a wheel is dragging. I think these symptoms in conjunction pinpoint the TB having an issue. I’d try some low speed maneuvers to help rule out TB. 2008 LR3 HSE, 4.4L V8
