heated steering wheel/paddles/illumination errors |
|
All
2013 (63) D4 GS - currently has a steering wheel with cruise/phone/paddles etc, all working, it doesn't have the white horn symbol on the raised bit. I do have the clock spring HSW 12v foam covered plug in the cowling (and I did fit it)
Procured a heated wheel and heated clock spring. Fitted, enabled in ccf, not working. However neither is the wheel illumination and the paddles are disabled. Checked and it is a 2014my ecu, has the white horn symbol. B*gger.
Having looked at all 7 pages of HSW threads I can see i should likely have the earlier switch pack and HSW ecu for my model year, we will get to that.
What I am trying to find out though is - has anyone who's been through this hassle had the same problem with the flappy paddles and the switch pack illumination too, if so, did you just change the switch pack?
Irritated!
Also, is it an option just to run a 12v feed direct to the clock spring, not the one that's already there, such as seems to be done on the D3 mod?

Definitely the case that the correct pack has to be fitted.
Went through the problems you are experiencing, fitting the correct pack cured all.

Test if you have power coming to and through the clock spring, best to use a tester with 12volt bulb as you may get a no load reading with a multi-meter.
These testers are like a screwdriver with a bulb in the handle with a cable a crocodile clip coming out of the top, very cheap from any car accessory shop. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi there. So definitively, you had the same faults occur? The guy who supplied the wheel suggested it could be a faulty clock ring - which i am trying to rule out.

The circuit board on the back of the switches can be fitted to either 'white' or 'black' switch, it is this that determines if it works or not, not the switches themselves.

Yes I realise that, thanks, the white horn icon vs no icon seems to indicate a later vs earlier wheel (subject to not being modded of course).
